Diversify production towards high-quality, high-tech textiles and specialty and niche products

As part of the international meeting calendar of Project PLUSTEX, on 12 and 13 September took place in Guimaraes  (Portugal), the sixth Managing Committee Meeting & Exchange Thematic Workshop. On September 12, after the opening and welcome session by Antonio Magalhaes, Mayor of Guimaraes and a general overview of the traditional significance of textile industry of the district, the Exchange Thematic Workshop has started focusing on the presentation of a Good Practices selection related to the topic “Diversify production towards high-quality, high-tech textiles and specialty and niche products“.

The session has been opened by a very interesting intervention by Jose Mendes of the University of Minho titled ”Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem” followed by a group of five Good Practice selected in the partnership territories such as for instance Moratex, the Institute of Security Technologies of Lodz that worked-out the leading position among domestic R&D bodies and developers of hi-tec products in Poland or the UP-tex experience, a major research & innovation cluster in Lille that brings together the key actors in the sector – research institutes, university laboratories and private enterprise.

The workshop concluded with a debate open to all participants, partners and stakeholders, for questions, clarifications and points of view on the experiences presented.

In the afternoon the first part of Study Visits programme as made possible to discover the Science Park Avepark (with its incubator Spinpark) and subsequently Texteis Pizarro and Moretextil, two of the most important textile companies of Guimaraes area.
